MEETINGS & FIGHTER PRACTICES

St. Philip's Episcopal Church
403 East Main Street,
Durham, NC 27701-3719
(at the corner of East Main & Queen Streets) |
Beginning in March 2008, Buckston's
Tuesday night canton meetings
and fighter practices returned to their
ancient location in at St. Phillip's Church in downtown
Durham. (Note: This is
not the Academy Drive location.)
Directions are
below.
Unless otherwise announced, armoured and rapier practices begin at
5:30 PM.
Watch The Keep
(Baronial email list group) for updates and weather cancellations.
Armoured practice: For information about armored
fighting, contact Master Valdemar at TheQuillen@aol.com or (919)
491-6027 (cell). If the
temperature in Durham drops below 40º F, or there is
precipitation, Master Valdemar will open his home workshop at 5:30
PM to heavy fighters, guests and interested parties to drop in and
make use of tools for armour repair and maintenance.
Directions are here. Valdemar's house is 6 miles from the
meeting site, so it's close enough for people to make to the canton
meeting on time.
Watch The Keep
for updates and weather cancellations.
Rapier practice: Happens weekly (except for first Tuesdays of the month [beginning
1 April 2008] - details below). If the
temperature in Durham drops below 40º F, or there is
precipitation, rapier drills / footwork will be conducted indoors.
Non-fighters are welcome to join in. Contact
Baron Alejandro at baronalejandro AT yahoo DOT com or Lord Wistric
at otownes AT gmail DOT com for
more information about rapier fighting.
First Tuesdays of the month - "Rapier-Fights-Heavy":
In consultation with Lord Wistric and Master Valdemar, we're
instituting a change in Buckston-on-Eno rapier practice, beginning
on 1 April, 2008. First Tuesday practice of the month will now be
'Rapier-fights-Heavy'. Any rapier fighter who shows up is invited to
work on their spear, their polearm, or any other armored format
they're interested in. NO RAPIER WILL BE PRACTICED (mainly because
both the marshals for that practice will be doing armoured!).
If things go well, Buckston's armoured regulars will get a chance to
work on anti-spear play as well.
If you're a rapier fighter and you're interested in armoured, I have
*some* extra armour available. If you need gear, please give a
heads-up and we'll see what we can do. Otherwise, bring your armour
and your weaponry and be ready to join our armoured brethren in
preparations for war & tourney.
Buckston's weekly business meetings are held on Tuesday
nights from 7:30 - 9:00 PM (although some folks show up earlier
for fighting or general hanging out) Contact
Lady Philippa at jkennedy93@yahoo.com for more
information about the meetings or call her at home phone at (919)
870-6046.
European Dance Practice: happens after the business meeting
on the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays of the month. Questions can
be directed to Lord Galeran at bsidlauskas@gmail.com.
Our
Monthly Hafla: (Middle Eastern dance & drumming party) happens after the business
meeting on the 4th Tuesdays of the month.
Sometimes we have A&S classes on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.
After the meetings, the group will usually go out to dinner at a
local restaurant. |
