The Purpose of the Youth Activities Program in the Kingdom of Atlantia is to teach our youth about Medieval and Renaissance history; and to create opportunities where they can be fully involved in activities in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) that are appropriate for their age and ability. We can only do this if we have the buy-in from the parents, youth and other members of the SCA.

Questions can be directed to our Baronial Chancelor of Minors:
     Elisabeth Hännsler  (Emmie WIlliams)

     Email:  cm AT windmastershill DOT org

Our programs are broken down by age group:

Under 4 -- A Wee One's Corner is provided at most events for children under 4 years. Supervision is required at all times and is NOT provided by event staff, children under 14 are NOT appropriate supervisors. Toddler safe toys and books are provided to entertain our youngest members.

Ages 4-8 -- Children's Corners provide historically appropriate crafts and activities for children ages 4-8. Children's Corner Activities are provided at most events. Parents/Guardians MUST come to the Corner site to sign their children IN and OUT. It is requested that Parents/Guardians volunteer time or materials to the Children's Corner.

Ages 9-14 -- The Pages Academy provides age-appropriate, historically interesting classes/workshops, activities, competitions through the Pages Academy structure for children ages 9-14. Formal Pages Activities are usually not provided at events unless requested by the Pages. Pages are encouraged to earn Service points by assisting event staff, A&S points by entering competitions and demos, and History points by attending any classes at the event. We will be happy to provide formal Page Activities if we know at least 3 Pages are interested in them.

Youth over age 14 -- We coordinate with local event stewards to plan age appropriate activities, and to create spaces where the teens can socialize in a safe area. Due to the lack of response regarding Teen Activities in Windmaster's Hill, specific teen activities will only be provided upon the request of the teens or parents. We are thrilled to provide activities when they are desired.

A Reading Corner is provided for children of all ages at most events. Look for the "Joust Read" poster. We have an assortment of books and are always looking for more.

Important note about Children/Minors at SCA Events:

Minors under the age of 18 are not permitted to enter (or remain on) an event site without an adult who is
designated as being responsible for them. If the adult in question is not the minor's parent or guardian, that adult must present a Minor Medical Authorization Form, signed by the parent or legal guardian at registration at the event. This medical authorization form
must be notarized. (We must have the form even if you are a blood relative such as a grandparent).  Click here for more information about this formDon't make us turn away your minor event attendee at the gate!

Minors attending an SCA event must also present either a signed Minor Waiver, or a signed blue SCA membership card, before admission to the event. (Waiver forms will be available at the gate.)

Baronial Youth Supply Inventory
Here is a link to a list of items currently on hand for Youth Activities in Windmaster's Hill. If you are planning Children's Activities please check this list before making purchases.

We are ALWAYS in need of more supplies, though we are currently well supplied with crayons and markers at the moment. Our Wish List includes any sort of craft supply you can imagine, including but not limited to:

     *  SCA-related colouring pages
     *  glue gun sticks
     *  popsicle sticks
     *  egg cartons
     *  oatmeal canisters (with lids)
     *  decent sized pieces of fabric and trim,
     *  and of course....etc.

I would like to have a candlemaking activity as soon as I get the necessary supplies. To do this I need metal coffee cans (or similar heat proof itmes) and candle wax. The leftover bits from melting your candles down can be re-melted to make wax for the kids. I can use EVERY bit of wax!

Baronial Youth Prize Inventory
We have AMAZING kids in Windmaster's Hill and they are constantly trying new crafts. I would like to encourage every artisan to put together a basic kit with supplies and instructions for their favorite craft. I would also like to encourage artisans to volunteer to teach their craft to the children. If you are willing, please contact the Baronial Minister of Minors to arrange to teach.
